Conway, Arkansas -
The Tiger women's basketball team was edged 70-73 by Oglethorpe
University in the SCAC Semifinals on Saturday night, ending the team's
run at the conference title.
Trinity (20-6) trailed 27-40 at
the half, but came back in the second half. The Tigers refused to
collapse under the fast-paced style of Oglethorpe, the 24th-ranked team
in Division III. Trinity's final shot to tie the game missed,
though, and Oglethorpe escaped with the win.
After shooting just 32.1% in the
first half, Trinity came back to make 17-39 (43.6%) from the field in
the second. Oglethorpe was held to under 39% for the game -
including just 33.3% in the second half.
Danielle Hubenak led Trinity
with 17 points off the bench, hitting 6-11 field goals and 5-9 from the
line. Hubenak also had six rebounds and a game-best four assists.
Meghan Scholbe just missed a
double-double, collecting nine boards to go with her 13 points.
Alexandra Blake also nearly had a double-double, finishing with eight
points and leading all players with 10 rebounds.
Tierney Hughes chipped in with
12 points, while Rachel Snyder finished with 10 and hit 2-3 from
three-point range. Megan D'Errico added five points and three
assists in the game.
Three Oglethorpe players scored
17 points each to lead the team, including Tina Grace, Katie Kulavic,
and Anna Findley. Grace also led the team with nine rebounds,
while Kulavic finished with seven boards and four steals.
Trinity will await word of a
possible at-large bid to the NCAA Playoffs. Otherwise, the Tigers
- ranked fourth in the South Region - will have ended their season
tonight. |
