Trinity's women's basketball team used a strong second half to defeat
the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 72-58 on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity (3-0) trailed 33-37 at
the half, with both teams hitting 14-29 (48.3%) from the field.
The big difference was 7-11 (63.6%) three-point shooting for UMHB.
The Tigers continued to shoot
above 45% for the second half, but Mary Hardin-Baylor cooled off to
nearly 30% shooting in the second half - including 0-7 from three-point
range.
Krista Prato Matthews and Meghan
Scholbe each finished with a double-double in the game, and Prato
Matthews narrowly missed a triple-double for Trinity.
Prato Matthews hit 9-15 shots to
score a game-high 19 points, pulling down 10 rebounds, and recording
eight blocks. Her eight blocks were the second most in school
history, missing Bernadette Navjar's record of nine set in the 1998-99
season.
Scholbe finished with 14 points,
10 boards, five assists, and four steals in an all-around solid effort.
She hit 5-8 field goals and all four free throw attempts.
Tierney Hughes added 11 points
and three assists, while Danielle Hubenak finished with nine points and
five assists in 29 minutes.
Landie Thompson was 6-11 from
the field for 14 points for Mary Hardin-Baylor, while Blair Heitmiller
hit 4-6 three-point shots to finish with 12 points.
Trinity will host the Trinity
University Thanksgiving Classic this weekend, facing George Fox and
College of Notre Dame (MD) on Saturday and Sunday.
