Tigers Bounce Back With Win Over Chapman

Redlands, California - After suffering its first loss in the young season last night, Trinity's women's basketball team bounced back with an 83-74 win over Chapman University on Saturday at the Redlands Tip-Off Classic.

Trinity (2-1) shot better than 60% in the first half to open up a 39-29 lead at the break, but despite shooting 10-20 in the second half, Chapman was able to mount a late comeback.

After pushing the lead to as many as 15 points at one stage of the second half, Chapman used an 11-5 run to make the score 68-63 with 5:06 remaining.  Another short run by Chapman made it a tie game at 70-70 less than two minutes later, and then a pair of free throws gave Chapman its first lead since the 10:32 mark in the first half.

The Tigers responded with an 13-0 run down the stretch, hitting 11-14 free throws to seal the victory.  Danielle Hubenak was 6-6 in the final three minutes of play, while Krista Prato Matthews took the rest of the foul shots.

Hubenak earned her second straight 20-point game, finishing with 21 points in 24 minutes of action.  Hubenak also set a new school record by hitting 14-14 free throws in the game, which is also the second-best performance in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference history.

Prato Matthews finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Lauren Hickey scored a career-high 13 points on 4-5 shooting - including 3-4 from three-point range.  Alexandra Blake tied Prato Matthews for the team lead with seven rebounds.

Ali Marzella came off the bench with seven points and a team-leading seven assists, while Abby Dietert chipped in with six points.  Lindsay Hovland scored a career-best 13 points off the bench for the Tigers, hitting 5-9 from the field and pulling down four rebounds.

Chapman was led by 15 points from both Lauren Kamiyama and Hayley MacArthur.  Kamiyama also had three assists and four steals, while MacArthur hit 7-11 from the field and added six rebounds off the bench.

Trinity will finish off its road trip on Tuesday at Mary Hardin-Baylor, then will return home to face Schreiner and Lehman as part of the Trip Sports San Antonio Shootout next weekend.
