| San Antonio -
Trinity's women's soccer team, which won the SCAC Championship
this season, will travel to Hardin-Simmons for the opening round of
the NCAA playoffs on Wednesday. Trinity
(13-3-1) secured the SCAC title with a 4-0 win over Southwestern in
the final game of the regular season, earning the league's automatic
bid to the postseason.
The Wednesday afternoon game against the
Cowgirls will be a rematch of the season opener when Hardin-Simmons
handed Trinity a 1-0 defeat. The playoff opener will kick off
at 1:00 p.m.
Trinity won its third SCAC title in the past
four seasons, and advances to the playoffs for the fourth straight
year.
Tiger senior Jennifer Wray (12 points, 11
assists) leads the team in scoring with 35 total points this season,
and has nailed five game-winning goals. Her 11 assists are a
career-high, while she needs just one more goal to tie her high of
13, set in 2005.
Michelle Grambeau is second on the team with
23 points this season (seven goals, nine assists), followed closely
by Brianna Young's 22 points (10 goals, two assists).
First-year Jordan Azar has been a solid player as well, contributing
four goals and seven assists.
Jennifer Fifield has allowed just eight goals
in over 1,300 minutes for the Tigers, recording 38 saves and holding
a GAA of 0.53. She has recorded four individual shutouts, but
has helped the team to nine total this season.
Head Coach Lance Key is in his fourth season
with the Tigers, holding a record of 57-8-7 heading into this week's
game. He is 30-2-2 in SCAC play in his career, and he has
taken the team to the postseason each of his first four years. |
