Seven Players to Join Tiger Women's Soccer Team

San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers women’s soccer coach Lance Key will have eight new outstanding players for the 2007 season.

Two of the players are from Albuquerque, N.M. and the Rio Vista F.C.: midfielder/forward Jordan Azar (St. Pius X HS) and midfielder Lauren Folkman (La Cueva HS).

Danika Wright, a back and midfielder from Alpine, Utah (Lone Peak HS, Sparta United Premier), was selected All-State Class 5A Defense First Team in 2005 and 2006. Wright was also the All-Region Defense MVP  in 2006. Lone Peak was a state finalist for the past two years.

Megan Gravelyn, a back from Ann Arbor, Mich., will also become a Trinity Tiger. Gravelyn is a graduate of Pioneer High School and played for the Michigan Hawks.

Three Texans will add depth to the Trinity squad, two of whom are from Kingwood and Kingwood High School.

Midfielders Clare Wilmore (TSC Challenge) and Ellen Desmarais (TSC Challenge) are the new standouts from Kingwood.  Ashley Pierce, a midfielder/back from Sugar Land (Kempner HS), competed for Eclipse SC.

The latest addition to the newcomers for 2007 is Lauren Douglass. Douglass comes in as a defender from Ft. Worth, Texas.  She played for Trinity Valley High School and for FC Texas.

The Tigers advanced to their 13th NCAA Division III postseason tournament last fall, after winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship for a 12th time. Trinity (16-1-2) took on Willamette (Ore.) in the NCAA opening round at Tacoma, Wash, and advanced on penalty kicks after a double-overtime tie. The next day, Hardin-Simmons edged Trinity in the second round. The Tigers held a No. 1 national ranking near the end of the season. Coach Key was elected SCAC Coach of the Year.
