Early Goal Holds up as Trinity Opens Season With a Loss

Abilene, Texas - Trinity's women's soccer team opened up the 2007 season in defeat as an early goal from Hardin-Simmons was enough to secure a victory on Friday afternoon.

Trinity (0-1) had not previously lost a season opener since the 1999 campaign - a year in which the Tigers advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Hardin-Simmons netted a goal in the eighth minute of the game off of a corner kick.  Trinity out-shot HSU 19-7 overall - including a 12-4 advantage in the second half - but the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net.

Christi Carr recorded five saves for the Cowgirls, while Jennifer Fifield had a pair of saves for the Tigers.

First-year Jordan Azar took four shots for Trinity, putting three of those on goal.  Trinity also held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks in the game.

Trinity will face Whitworth University on Sunday afternoon.  Whitworth defeated Texas Lutheran 6-0 to open its season on Friday afternoon.
