Late Goal Spoils Home Opener for Trinity

San Antonio - Trinity's women's soccer team allowed a go-ahead goal in the final minutes, giving Whitworth University a 2-1 win in the Tigers' home opener on Sunday afternoon.

Trinity (0-2) trailed 1-0 at the half after Whitworth took the lead in the 19th minute of the game.  Early in the second period, the Tigers tied the game on a rebound goal by Jennifer Wray.

In the 85th minute, Whitworth shocked the Tigers with a long-distance shot that sailed up and over the head of Trinity GK Jennifer Fifield, turning what looked like an overtime game into a win for the visitors.

Trinity out-shot Whitworth 19-6 in the game, but Wray's goal was the only shot that found the mark.  First-year Jordan Azar's shot was saved - but not controlled - by Whitworth GK Krista Dietz, and Wray buried the loose ball into the back of the net.

The Tigers will remain at home for its next two games, played this weekend against UT-Dallas and UT-Tyler.  Trinity faces UT-Tyler on Friday night, then hosts UT-Dallas on Sunday afternoon.
