Trinity Women Eliminated on Penalty Kicks

Abilene, Texas - The Tiger women's soccer team was eliminated by Hardin-Simmons on penalty kicks in Wednesday's first round NCAA playoff game.

Trinity (13-3-2) and Hardin-Simmons met for the eighth time in four years, and for the fourth straight season in the playoffs.  The Cowgirls won the shootout 4-2 to advance to the second round of the postseason on Wednesday, facing Emory University on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.

Both teams had scoring opportunities in this game, but goalkeepers Jennifer Fifield of Trinity and Christi Carr of HSU made five saves each to preserve the shutout.

Fifield made five saves in the first two periods, including one in the first 13 seconds of action.  Carr made three saves in the first half, then had a pair of saves in the second overtime, keeping Trinity from ending the contest in victory.  Carr also made two saves in the shootout.

Jennifer Wray and Chelsea Wilson each had a pair of shots on goal for the Tigers, and the team out-shot Hardin-Simmons 15-9 overall.

Trinity ends its season after winning its third SCAC Championship in the last four years and advancing to the postseason for the fourth straight year.  This was the team's first loss in a first round playoff game since 1993 when the team fell 4-2 in overtime to Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
