Tigers Down Southwestern to Win SCAC Title

 

San Antonio - Trinity's women's soccer team defeated Southwestern 4-0 on Friday afternoon to secure the 2007 SCAC Championship.

Trinity (13-3-1, 8-0-1) led 2-0 at the half, needing a win or a tie to clinch the conference title.  The Tigers scored the eventual game-winner in the seventh minute on a penalty kick.  Trinity out-shot the Pirates 23-2 in the game.

Jennifer Wray scored two goals - including the game-winning penalty kick - increasing her team-leading total to 12 goals this season.  Wray also added an assist for the Tigers.

Robyn Brooks nailed a goal in the 35th minute on a free kick, while Chelsea Wilson finished off the scoring with a goal in the 85th minute. 

Michelle Grambeau added an assist on Wray's second goal, giving her nine this season - second only to Wray's total of 11.

Jennifer Fifield played into the 87th minute to lead the defense to the shutout - the team's ninth of the season.

Trinity will also receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs, with the field being officially announced on Sunday night.  The championship bracket will not be released until Monday.
