- Trinity's women's soccer team recorded its fourth consecutive
shutout on Sunday afternoon, beating the University of Dallas 9-0.
Trinity (6-2-1) led 2-0 at the half, then
exploded for seven more in the second period. Eight different
players scored for the Tigers, with the final goal being an own-goal
charged against Dallas.
Alex Leamy was credited with the game-winner,
opening the day's scoring in the 32nd minute of play. Danika
Wright then scored just over four minutes later to finish off the
first period's scoring.
Tiger first-year Dana Carter made it 3-0 just
44 seconds into the second period, with an assist from Allyson
Hunter. Carter then assisted on the next goal in the 57th
minute, setting up Lauren Folkman.
In the 61st minute, Hunter scored an
unassisted goal, then Abigail Loar did the same in the 69th minute
of play. Just a few minutes later, Brianna Young crossed the ball
into the six-yard box, and after the Dallas goalkeeper deflected it
to the middle of the field, Grace Rizza made a nice pass to Chelsea
Wilson for a goal. It was the second assist of the game for
Young, who assisted on Leamy's game-winner.
Rizza then scored the next goal for Trinity in
the 75th minute, assisted by Julia Zangirolami. With just over
three minutes left, a Dallas defender tried to clear the ball out of
play over her own goal, but instead knocked it into the net for an
own-goal.
Trinity's offense peppered 57 shots at the
Dallas defense, while the Tigers did not allow a shot in the entire
game.
Trinity remains at home for another round of
SCAC play next weekend, facing off against Oglethorpe on Friday,
then taking on Sewanee on Sunday. |
