- The Tiger women's soccer team opened up the 2008 season with a
dramatic come-from-behind victory over the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday night.
Trinity (1-0-0) fell behind 2-0 in the first
half, as UW-Stevens Point netted a pair of goals in less than five
minutes late in the period.
In the 33rd minute, the Pointers converted a
penalty kick to take the lead, then scored again in the 38th minute
to take the two-goal advantage.
Trinity became the aggressor in the second
half, finishing with a 16-1 advantage in shots taken. The
Tigers scored four times in the half, including a goal in the 71st
minute that tied the game at 2-2.
In the 77th minute, Tiger senior defender
Robyn Brooks hit the eventual game-winner on a 50-yard free kick.
Brooks also assisted on the tying goal in the 71st minute, which was
scored by junior midfielder Michelle Grambeau. Sophomore
Jordan Azar also assisted on the play.
First-year player Kelly Watts came off the
bench with a huge spark for Trinity, scoring two goals in the game.
Watts opened the scoring for Trinity with a goal in the 58th minute,
then finished off the evening with her second score with less than
five minutes to play. Grambeau assisted on both scores.
First-year goalkeeper Katie Cowan recorded two
saves in her 90-minute collegiate debut in net for the Tigers.
Pam Luckow recorded seven saves for the Pointers.
Trinity will face UW-Eau Claire tomorrow
evening to finish off its opening weekend of play. The Tigers
will then be on the road against UT-Tyler and UT-Dallas next
weekend. |
