Trinity Opens 2008 Season With Dramatic Comeback

San Antonio - The Tiger women's soccer team opened up the 2008 season with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday night.

Trinity (1-0-0) fell behind 2-0 in the first half, as UW-Stevens Point netted a pair of goals in less than five minutes late in the period.

In the 33rd minute, the Pointers converted a penalty kick to take the lead, then scored again in the 38th minute to take the two-goal advantage.

Trinity became the aggressor in the second half, finishing with a 16-1 advantage in shots taken.  The Tigers scored four times in the half, including a goal in the 71st minute that tied the game at 2-2.

In the 77th minute, Tiger senior defender Robyn Brooks hit the eventual game-winner on a 50-yard free kick.  Brooks also assisted on the tying goal in the 71st minute, which was scored by junior midfielder Michelle Grambeau.  Sophomore Jordan Azar also assisted on the play.

First-year player Kelly Watts came off the bench with a huge spark for Trinity, scoring two goals in the game.  Watts opened the scoring for Trinity with a goal in the 58th minute, then finished off the evening with her second score with less than five minutes to play.  Grambeau assisted on both scores.

First-year goalkeeper Katie Cowan recorded two saves in her 90-minute collegiate debut in net for the Tigers.  Pam Luckow recorded seven saves for the Pointers.

Trinity will face UW-Eau Claire tomorrow evening to finish off its opening weekend of play.  The Tigers will then be on the road against UT-Tyler and UT-Dallas next weekend.
