Trinity University Tigers
women’s tennis players Katy Poettcker and Katie Griffith have been
honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Poettcker, a
sophomore, has been selected as the ITA Division III West Region
Player to Watch. Griffith, in her first year at Trinity, was chosen
as the West Region Rookie Player of the Year. The national awards
will be announced later this month.
Poettcker will
represent Trinity in the 32-draw NCAA Singles Championship
tournament May 22-24 at Lawrenceville, Ga. She was a singles
semifinalist at the ITA regional tournament last fall. Poettcker has
an overall 15-8 singles record (5-2 in the fall, 10-6 in spring dual
matches).
Griffith, an
ITA regional finalist, sported an overall 16-5 singles record (3-1
in the fall, 13-4 in the spring).
Both players
were also elected to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Team.
Trinity, led
by first-year head coach Ryan Takao, advanced to the SCAC final for
the 17th time. The Tigers went 11-7 in dual matches, and
are ranked No. 22 nationally. Final rankings will be announced in
June.
