Trinity Opens Fab Five Tournament With Loss to Williams

 

San Antonio - Trinity's women's tennis team opened the 2007 Fab Five Women's Tennis Tournament with a 6-3 loss to Williams College on Thursday evening.

Trinity (8-9) lost for the fourth time in the last five matches, but for only the first time at home this season.  The Tigers now stand 8-1 at home.

Trinity lost two out of three doubles matches, and won just two singles matches as well.  Williams, which won national titles in 2001 and 2002, are currently ranked seventh nationally.  The Tigers, which won the Division III Championship in 2000, is ranked fifth.

Alicia Hunt lost for the first time in her last seven singles matches, falling to 34-6 all-time at No. 2 singles. 

Cayleigh Simpson won in both singles and doubles in the match, earning a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) singles win, as well as an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles with partner Heather Naeher.  Krista Melish also won in singles, taking No. 4 singles 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

Trinity will continue play in the tournament on Saturday, taking on four-time defending national champion Emory University at 9:00 a.m.  Williams will meet Emory tomorrow at noon.
