Tigers Record Second Straight Shutout on Friday

 

San Antonio - The Trinity University Tigers women’s tennis team, ranked No. 20 in the NCAA Division III, shut out McMurry University 9-0 Friday in a dual match played at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Trinity, ranked No. 3 in the West Region, improved to 6-6. The Tigers, who picked up their second straight shutout, will host UT-Tyler, ranked No. 8 in the region, at 10 a.m. Saturday at Delavan.

Sophomores Katy Poettcker and Erin Jamison, ranked seventh in the West Region, won No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 victory over Kristin Bray and Shelby Carpenter. First-years Kelsie Lawson and Kassie Seger beat Gavee Olsen and Hillary Stone 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, while senior Melissa Weinnig and sophomore Megan Jackson captured No. 3 with an 8-0 win over Caitlin Qunell and Janet Hernandez.

Jamison took No. 1 singles, beating Bray 6-1, 6-4, and Jackson won No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Olsen. Weinnig was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Stone at No. 3 singles, and Lawson notched a win at No. 4, beating Rachel Smith 6-3, 6-0. Seger beat Carpenter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and first-year Nicole Remling won the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-1 over Hernandez.
