Tyler JC Beats Scrappy Trinity Team

San Antonio - The Tyler Junior College Apaches, ranked No. 3 in the JUCO poll, beat a tenacious Tiger team 6-3 Friday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Tyler J.C. started the match by sweeping all three doubles from Trinity, ranked No. 17 in the NCAA Division III.  But the Tigers and Apaches split the singles competition.

Trinity first-year player Katie Griffith, ranked No. 8 in the west Region, took No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Anna Zurek, who is ranked eighth nationally in the JUCO poll. Sophomore Megan Jackson won No. 4 singles, beating Casey Bulls 6-0, 6-4. No. 5 singles also went to the Tigers, as senior Melissa Weinnig defeated Kelly Rittenhouse 6-3, 6-3.

The Tigers (3-6) will host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a Division III match at 2 p.m. Saturday.
