- The Trinity Tigers
opened their 2009 campaign Tuesday with a 2-0 home shutout over the
Texas Lutheran Bulldogs.
Trinity now stands at 15-2-1 in opening games since 1991. Sixth-year
head coach Lance Key upped his record to 4-1-1 in season openers.
Trinity and Texas Lutheran faced off for the seventh straight
season, and the Tigers hold a 7-0 record in the series.
Tiger sophomore forward Abigail
Loar put Trinity on the board with a first-half goal at 21:53.
Senior midfielder Brianna Young provided the assist, as the Tigers
led going into halftime.
Loar would prove to play an
important role in the second half, as she fired an assist to senior
forward Bekah Gabay, who scored in the 88th minute.
Tiger first-year goalkeeper
Katie Garrett registered one save in the shutout. Marlena Ashby, a
Texas Lutheran senior goalkeeper, allowed two goals but had 10
saves.
Trinity led 31-3 in shots, and
held a 12-2 advantage on goal. In the corner kicks department, the
Tigers led 8-3.
The Tigers will host
Hardin-Simmons at 5 p.m. Saturday. |
