- The Trinity Tigers
women, ranked No. 5 in the nation, remained undefeated with a 2-1
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Centre
College Colonels Friday night.
Trinity improved to 10-0-0 and
3-0-0 SCAC, while Centre dropped to 8-4-2 and 3-2-1 SCAC.
Tiger
sophomore forward Kelly Watts scored the game-winning goal,
unassisted, in the 60th minute. Two minutes earlier,
senior midfielder Brianna Young evened the score at 1-1, with an
assist from sophomore forward Abigail Loar. Centre took a 1-0 lead,
in the 34th minute, by an own-goal from the Tigers, off a
corner kick.
Young
registered her eighth goal of the season, and Watts her fifth. It
was Watts’ first game-winner of the campaign.
Trinity
first-year goalkeeper Katie Garrett recorded five saves in the game,
played on the opening night of Trinity Soccer Family Weekend.
The Tigers led
16-6 in total shots. Trinity and Centre tied in shots on goal at six
apiece. the Tigers held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Trinity will
host DePauw in an SCAC game Sunday. The starting time has been moved
to 1 p.m. |
