San Antonio -
Two senior members of the Trinity University
Tigers women’s soccer team have been named Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Players of the Week.
Forward Brianna Young was selected as SCAC
Offensive Player of the Week, and defender Danika Wright was named
Defensive Player of the Week.
Young, from Rockville Centre, N.Y.
(Southside), scored two goals and made two assists in the Tigers’ SCAC
road victories last weekend over Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps. She
scored the game-winning goals, as well as dishing out assists in the
other two Trinity goals. For the season, Young leads the team with seven
goals, six assists and 20 points. Her five game-winners are also the
most on the Tiger squad this season. Young has scored 12 game-winning
goals in her career.
Wright, from Alpine, Utah (Lone Peak), led the
stingy Tiger defense which posted shutouts last week. Trinity allowed
seven total shots, and only two on goal. Wright and the Tigers allowed
just four shots and two corner kicks in the Birmingham-Southern game,
then limited Millsaps to three shots and two corner kicks.
Trinity has recorded eight shutouts in nine
games this season, and has yielded one goal. In addition, Trinity has
four shutouts in its last four games.
The Tigers are undefeated at 9-0-0 and 2-0-0
SCAC. They are ranked No. 5 in the nation, by d3soccer.com, and sixth by
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III poll. |
