San Antonio -
Trinity University Tigers sophomore forward Abigail Loar of Littleton,
Colo. (Heritage), has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Loar led the third-ranked Tigers
in scoring last week, as Trinity clinched its 14th SCAC Championship and
the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs, with two road
victories.
In last Friday’s 8-0 shutout of
Oglethorpe, Loar scored her first hat trick (three goals). She scored
her first goal just 20 seconds into the game, marking her
fifth-game-winner of the season. Loar then added another in the 31st
minute. Loar also scored the first goal of the second half for the
Tigers, giving her the team’s first hat trick since the 2007 season.
During Sunday’s 6-1 SCAC-clinching
victory over Sewanee: The University of the South, Loar scored two
second-half goals.
For the season, Loar has
scored 12 goals and recorded four assists. Trinity is undefeated
with a 14-0-0 overall record, and stands at 7-0-0 in the SCAC.
The Tigers, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA West Region,
close out their regular season with two SCAC home games next
weekend, Trinity’s Alumni Weekend. Trinity hosts Rhodes at 8 p.m.
Friday, and Hendrix at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Official NCAA bids will be
announced Monday, and the playoffs begin Nov. 12. The NCAA Final Four
will be held at San Antonio’s Blossom Soccer Stadium Dec. 4-5. Trinity
and San Antonio Sports are the hosts of the men’s and women’s event. |
