Pomona, California -
The Tiger women's tennis team, ranked fourth in Division III, was
upset in a 6-3 win by 14th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer College on Saturday
afternoon.
Trinity (7-7) lost for just
the second time all year against Division III opponents, falling to
5-2 on the season. The Tigers took one doubles match and two
singles matches against Pomona on Saturday.
Alicia Hunt won in both
singles and doubles in this match, coming back from a first-set
defeat for the second straight day. Hunt won 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in
singles, as well as teaming with Renae Wright to take an 8-5 win at
No. 1 doubles. Hunt improves to 6-1 at No. 2 singles this
season.
Melissa Weinnig also won in
singles, surviving a tightly-contested final set. Weinnig took
the first set 6-2, but lost 2-6 in the second. She battled
Pomona's Lindsay Clough to a 12-10 win in the deciding set, winning
her sixth singles match of the season.
The Tigers will face
16th-ranked Redlands tomorrow in the final match of the weekend.
Trinity returns home to take on Willamette on Tuesday afternoon at
Delavan Tennis Stadium, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
