Trinity Sweeps Texas Lutheran and Laredo in Home Openers

 

San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis team, ranked fifth in the nation, defeated both Texas Lutheran University and Laredo Community College on Saturday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Trinity (2-4) won its first games of the season in the home openers.  The Tigers swept Texas Lutheran 9-0, then beat 17th-ranked Laredo 8-1 in the finale.

All-American Hayley Dittus won at No. 1 singles against Texas Lutheran, then won at No. 2 singles in the Laredo CC match.  Dittus improves to 4-1 in singles play on the season.

Krista Melish, Melissa Weinnig, and Heather Naeher all won a pair of singles matches on the day, while Laura Calcaterra and Cayleigh Simpson were unbeaten in their only singles matches of the day. 

Jennifer Taylor and Libby Benoist were doubles winners against Texas Lutheran, while Renae Wright scored doubles wins with two different partners.  Dittus and Melish paired up to sweep their doubles matches Saturday.

Trinity will host two more home matches next Saturday against a pair of in-state opponents.  Division II's St. Mary's will start things off against the Tigers, followed by a match against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
