Redlands, California -
Trinity's women's tennis team lost its third straight match of the
weekend on Sunday, falling to the University of Redlands by the
final of 6-3.
Trinity (7-8) came into the
weekend ranked fifth in Division III, and had not lost to a D-III
team this season. The Tigers fell to fourth-ranked Claremont
and No. 14 Pomona the past two days.
Alicia Hunt won for the
sixth straight time in singles play, and was the only Tiger to win
all three of her singles contests this weekend. Hunt also
narrowly lost at No. 2 doubles with teammate Renae Wright, losing
9-7.
Krista Melish and Lauren
Trapani also won singles matches today, as Trinity split the six
singles matches with Redlands. Redlands, however, won all
three doubles matches to start the day - which eventually made the
difference.
Melish improves to 6-4 in
singles this season, while Trapani holds a 7-5 singles record.
She is 2-0 at the No. 6 position, winning twice in that spot this
weekend.
Trinity returns home on
Tuesday to face Willamette at 4:00 p.m. The Tigers will also
host four of the top teams in Division III from March 29 through
April 3 in the Fab Five Women's Tennis Tournament. Top-ranked
Emory, third-ranked Washington & Lee, seventh-ranked Williams, and
No. 12 Gustavus Adolphus will join the Tigers in San Antonio for the
tournament.
One of these five teams have
been in the NCAA Division III National Championship match every year
since 1999, as well as one of the teams winning the tournament each
year since 2000.
