San Antonio -
Trinity's women's tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak
with an 8-1 win over Willamette University on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity (8-8) won five out
of six singles matches after sweeping the doubles matches. The
win improves Trinity's home record to 8-0 this season.
Alicia Hunt won for the
sixth straight time in singles play, and for the first time this
season at No. 1 singles. She is 8-6 in singles this season,
and after also winning at No. 1 doubles, she improves to 10-5 in
doubles. Her doubles partner Renae Wright boosted her career
doubles record to 15-5.
Melissa Weinnig also won in
both singles and doubles, as did Heather Naeher. Weinnig is
now 12-4 in singles play in her career.
Trinity will face four of
the top Division III women's tennis programs in the nation over the
next week, hosting the Fab Five Women's Tennis Tournament. The
Tigers take on Williams College on Thursday afternoon to open the
tournament action. Trinity and Williams are joined by
Washington & Lee University, Gustavus Adolphus College, and
four-time defending national champion Emory University.
