Baytown, Texas -
Trinity's women's tennis team earned its second upset win of the
weekend, defeating defending Junior College National Champions Lee
College 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity (2-0), which is
ranked 14th in Division III, defeated Tarleton State University
yesterday - the 23rd-ranked team in Division II.
After winning all three
doubles points, the Tigers proceeded to win three of six singles
points to earn the victory. Trinity lost an 8-1 decision to
Lee last season, but did beat the Rebels 5-4 in 2006.
Alicia Hunt and Laura
Steinmetz team up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Katie
Poettcker and Erin Jamison won 8-6 at No. 2. Megan Fish and
Megan Jackson cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Hunt and Poettcker lost at
the top two singles positions, as did Cayleigh Simpson - who
clinched yesterday's 5-4 win over Tarleton in singles.
Jamison, Jackson, and senior
Heather Naeher earned straight set victories in the final three
singles slots to earn the win for the Tigers.
Trinity resumes its schedule
with the home opener against St. Edward's University on February 15,
which will also be the first of five consecutive home matches for
the Tigers.
