Tigers Eliminated by Fourth-Ranked Emory

Sewanee, Tennessee - The top-seeded Emory University Eagles beat the No. 2 Trinity University Tigers 5-0 Sunday in the NCAA Division III women’s tennis third round at the regional final at the University of the South-Sewanee.

Emory, ranked No. 4 in the nation, advanced to the eight-team NCAA Championship tournament May 13-15 at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Tigers, ranked No. 19 nationally, concluded their season with a 15-9 record.

Two Tigers players will represent Trinity at the NCAA singles and doubles tournaments May 16-18, also to be held in Minnesota.

Senior Alicia Hunt of Portland, Ore. (Catlin Gabel), will compete in her fourth straight 32-draw NCAA singles tournament. Hunt will team with junior Laura Steinmetz of The Woodlands, Texas (The Woodlands), in the 16-draw doubles championship event.

Last October, the Tiger tandem won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional doubles crown and advanced to the National Small College Championships at Mobile, Ala. Hunt also captured the regional singles title and went on to ITA nationals. The Trinity duo made it all the way to the doubles championship match and Hunt was a singles semifinalist.
