Trinity Edged by D-II St. Edward's in Home Opener

San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis team lost 4-5 in its 2008 home opener against Division II St. Edward's University on Sunday afternoon at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Trinity (2-1) split the six singles matches on the day, but one just one of three in doubles.  The Tigers have yet to face a Division III opponent this season.

Alicia Hunt and Laura Steinmetz teamed up for the victory at No. 1 doubles, while the teams of Erin Jamison/Katie Poettcker and Cayleigh Simpson/Megan Jackson were both edged in very close contests.  Jamison and Poettcker lost 9-8 (8-6), while Simpson/Jackson fell 9-8 (9-7).

Hunt also won in singles, claiming a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position.  Jamison finished with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles, and Heather Naeher won at No. 6 by the final of 6-1, 6-2.

In addition to their doubles loss, Simpson and Jackson also lost in singles at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively.  Poettcker's No. 2 singles matches was the clincher for St. Edward's, and although she won the opening set 7-6, Del Bosque won 6-4, 6-4 in the final two sets to seal the win.

Trinity will be back in action on March 1, taking on Hardin-Simmons and McMurry of the American Southwest Conference.
