San Antonio -
Trinity's women's tennis team swept a 9-0 decision from St. Mary's
(TX) University on Friday afternoon, making up last weekend's rained
out match.
Trinity (3-1) earned its
first sweep of the season, and has yet to play a match against a
Division III opponent. St. Mary's, which competes in Division
II, fell to 1-2 on the season.
All-Americans Alicia Hunt
and Laura Steinmetz won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, which turned out to be
the closest doubles match of the day. Teams of Erin
Jamison/Katie Poettcker and Megan Fish/Cayleigh Simpson each won 8-2
and 8-1, respectively.
Fish and Poettcker played
the top two singles positions as well, winning in straight sets.
Jamison won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Heather Naeher won 6-3,
6-1 at No. 4, followed by Sarah Chalos winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.
The final match of the draw was also the closest as Jennifer Taylor
was taken to a tiebreaker (used instead of a third set), but still
won 6-0, 5-7, 10-7.
The Tigers next play on
Saturday, March 1, taking on both Hardin-Simmons and McMurry in a
pair of regional matches.
