The Tigers, ranked No. 17 in
the NCAA Division III, were 7-2 winners over The Cru of the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
Trinity,
ranked third in the West Region, improved to 4-6. The Tigers took
two of three doubles matches and five of six singles. Mary
Hardin-Baylor is No. 12 in the region.
Mary
Hardin-Baylor’s Mallory and Megan Aarhus, who are twins and are
ranked ninth in the region, won No. 1 doubles by an 8-2 score over
Tiger sophomore Erin Jamison and first-year player Katie Griffith,
who are seventh regionally. First-years Kelsie Lawson and Kassie
Seger beat Rebecca Everett and Christi Voss 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Senior Melissa Weinnig and sophomore Megan Jackson were 8-3 winners
over Amber Long and Andrea Wharton.
Griffith,
ranked eighth in the region, won No. 1 singles, which clinched the
dual match, with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over 20th-ranked
Megan Aarhus. Jamison captured No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Mallory
Aarhus (19th in the region), and Jackson won No. 3 by
beating Everett 6-1, 7-5. Weinnig defeated Long 6-1, 6-0. The Cru
won No. 5 singles – the last match on the court – as Voss beat Seger
6-4, 3-6, 10-2. A tiebreak was played in lieu of a third set. Lawson
beat Wharton 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Trinity
travels to Sherman, Texas, for a SCAC match Friday with Colorado
College at Austin College. Next Saturday, the Tigers continue their
SCAC schedule in Sherman with two matches, against Southwestern and
the host Austin College.
