The Trinity University
Tigers women’s tennis team, ranked No. 20 in the NCAA Division III,
won its fourth straight match with a 7-2 victory Saturday over the
UT-Tyler Patriots at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
Trinity,
ranked No. 3 in the West Region, went over the .500 mark and now
stands at 7-6. UT-Tyler was ranked No. 8 in the region.
The Tigers
took of three doubles matches, including the No. 1 slot. Sophomores
Katy Poettcker and Erin Jamison, ranked No. 7 in the West region,
beat second-ranked Michelle Hagler and Beth Launius 9-8. Trinity
first-year players Kelsie Lawson and Kassie Seger won No. 2 doubles,
beating Lauren Nielsen and Sydni Hermsdorf 8-3. The Patriots won No.
3 doubles, as Brittany Ude and Lauren Giovannini beat sophomore
Megan Jackson and senior Melissa Weinnig 8-5.
Trinity
captured five of six singles matches, including the No. 1 match.
Poettcker, ranked fourth in the region, was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over
Launius, ranked 16th.
The clinch
match for the Tigers was at No. 2 singles, as the eighth-ranked
Griffith came back to beat No. 23 Hagler 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. The match
stood at 5-2 at this point.
UT-Tyler won
No. 4 singles, with Hermsdorf beating Jackson 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).
Jamison took
No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Nielsen, and Weinnig won
No. 5, defeating Giovannini 7-5, 6-3. Lawson got the nod at No. 6
singles, with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 win over Ude. A tiebreak was played
instead of a third set.
The Tigers
will meet Hardin-Simmons University, ranked No. 5 in the region, at
10 a.m. Friday, April 10, in Abilene, Texas.
