Trinity Begins Doubleheader by Beating Carleton

San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team defeated Carleton College 4-1 in the first game of a Wednesday evening doubleheader at E.M. Stevens Field.

Trinity (15-6) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to answer Carleton's run in the top of the inning.  In the third, the Tigers finished the scoring with a final run.

Ryan Hopkins (2-1) earned the win with a complete-game five-hitter, giving up just one run and striking out five batters without allowing a walk.

J.B. Sowyrda led the Tigers with two hits in three trips to the plate, scoring once and driving in a run as well.

Luke Muellereile finished 2-3 for Carleton, scoring the team's only run of the game.  Ben Cooprider was 1-3 with one RBI in the game.

The two teams will meet for the second game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
