San Antonio - The Tiger baseball
team defeated Carleton College 13-2 in the second game of a doubleheader
on Wednesday night.
Trinity (16-6) jumped out to a 7-0 lead
with runs in the second and third inning before Carleton broke up the
shutout with a run in the fourth. The Tigers scored four more runs
in the fifth and sixth innings, and finished off the scoring with a
two-run eighth.
Evan Bronson (1-0) earned the win, coming
on in relief in the fourth inning to get the team out of a bases loaded
jam. Bronson didn't allow a hit over 1.1 innings of work.
Ryan Poffenroth struck out five through three innings, while Drew
Bignall finished off the game with a perfect ninth. The Tiger
pitching staff allowed just two hits overall in the game.
J.B. Sowyrda was 3-4 with a double and
three runs scored in the game, while Will Becker was 2-4 with two runs
and three RBI.
Nick Vera was 1-1 with four walks, scoring
three runs and driving in two. Steven Ramos was 2-4 with two walks
in his first career start, and Jordan Pennington was 1-2 with two runs
and three walks.
Trinity will host Doane College tomorrow
afternoon, followed by a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference weekend series with Rhodes College.
