Tigers Finish Sweep of Carleton With 13-2 Victory

San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team defeated Carleton College 13-2 in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday night.

Trinity (16-6) jumped out to a 7-0 lead with runs in the second and third inning before Carleton broke up the shutout with a run in the fourth.  The Tigers scored four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and finished off the scoring with a two-run eighth.

Evan Bronson (1-0) earned the win, coming on in relief in the fourth inning to get the team out of a bases loaded jam.  Bronson didn't allow a hit over 1.1 innings of work.  Ryan Poffenroth struck out five through three innings, while Drew Bignall finished off the game with a perfect ninth.  The Tiger pitching staff allowed just two hits overall in the game.

J.B. Sowyrda was 3-4 with a double and three runs scored in the game, while Will Becker was 2-4 with two runs and three RBI.

Nick Vera was 1-1 with four walks, scoring three runs and driving in two.  Steven Ramos was 2-4 with two walks in his first career start, and Jordan Pennington was 1-2 with two runs and three walks.

Trinity will host Doane College tomorrow afternoon, followed by a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with Rhodes College.
