San Antonio - The Trinity baseball
team secured its sixth straight win by defeating Concordia (NE)
University 12-3 on Thursday night at E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity (8-4) scored a pair of runs in the
first inning, and then broke the game wide open with a six-run second.
The Tigers totaled four more runs in the next two innings to finish off
their scoring for the night. Concordia had a three-run seventh
inning to prevent Trinity's fourth straight shutout.
Johnny Baugus was 2-3 with three runs
scored in the game, while Blake Holman finished 1-3 with two runs and
two RBI. Bobby Zabor and J.B. Sowyrda also recorded two RBI in the
game.
Starter Adam Frey (1-1) was credited with
the win, tossing five shutout innings before leaving the game with a
12-0 lead. Frey struck out 10 hitters in the five innings,
allowing just one hit.
Willie Bush had a two-run single in the
seventh inning for Concordia, keeping the visitors from being shut out.
Brett Stewart was charged with the loss for the Bulldogs.
Trinity will face Franklin & Marshall
University in a three-game series over the weekend. The teams open
with a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a single game
at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
