San Antonio - In the team's final
non-conference game of a full week of action, Trinity defeated Doane
College 20-0 on Thursday afternoon at E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity (17-6) scored in all but one of its
eight innings on offense, including eight runs in the first three
innings. Four Tiger pitchers held the visiting Doane team to just
four hits in the game.
Senior John Allen, a career reliever for
the Tigers, earned the win in his first-ever start, striking out eight
in five innings of work. Allen allowed just three hits in the
game, but didn't allow a baserunner through the first 3.2 innings.
J.B. Sowyrda was 3-3 with two runs and two
RBI, also drawing two walks to reach base five times in the game.
Johnny Baugus was 2-3 with three runs and two RBI, while Ryan Cavan
finished 2-5 with two runs and three RBI.
Zach Fregosi also collected three hits,
driving in three runs and scoring three more. His replacement, Ted
Wilson, was 2-2 with one run and one RBI in the game. Eric
Samulski and Nick Vera added two runs each for the Tigers.
Trinity will face Rhodes College in a
four-game SCAC weekend series beginning tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
The series will feature two of the top three teams in the SCAC West
Division.
