San Antonio - Trinity's baseball
team defeated Franklin & Marshall (PA) College 15-3 on Sunday afternoon
to win two out of three games in this weekend series.
Trinity (10-5) won 6-1 in the opener,
followed by a 5-7 loss in the second game of the Saturday doubleheader.
The Tigers broke open a 2-2 game with a seven-run fifth inning, followed
by three-run innings in the seventh and eighth.
Bobby Zabor and Andreas Verrios each had
three-hit games for the Tigers offensively, while Drew Bignall gave up
just two runs - one earned - through seven innings to earn the win.
Bignall, who threw a two-hit shutout in his
last outing, gave up just four hits in the game, striking out seven
hitters and walking just one.
Zabor was 3-5 with one RBI and two runs
scored, while Verrios was 3-4 - including a double - with three runs and
one RBI.
Blake Holman had two hits in the game - one
of which was a double - and drove in three runs. Nick Vera was 2-2
with two RBI and four runs scored. Vera also drew two walks, had a
sacrifice fly, and stole his team-leading 13th base of the season.
Will Becker had two runs and two RBI, while
Zach Fregosi also knocked in a pair of runs. Relievers Evan
Bronson, Matt Berning, and Ryan Poffenroth gave up just one unearned run
on two hits in the final two innings.
Trinity will take on UW-Stout tomorrow
night at 7:00 p.m. The game will be the season opener for the Blue
Devils.
