San Antonio - Pitcher Brian Oates
tossed a seven-inning no-hitter to lead Trinity to a 4-0 victory over
Hendrix College in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday
afternoon.
Trinity (5-4, 2-2) scored a pair of runs in
the fourth, sparked by a solo homer by Johnny Baugus, and then added two
more runs in the sixth to finish the scoring. The home run from
Baugus was the first hit of the game against Hendrix as both pitchers
threw three perfect innings to open the game.
Oates continued his outstanding
performance, becoming just the seventh player in school history to throw
a no-hitter. He struck out six hitters in the game, but missed a
perfect game by walking three hitters - one intentional - and hitting
another.
Ryan Cavan and Blake Holman each went 2-3
for Trinity, and Cavan scored two runs. Cavan also had two
extra-base hits in the ball game - a double and a triple - while Holman
also cracked his team-leading fourth double of the year.
The Tigers and Warriors conclude today's
doubleheader later this afternoon.
