San Antonio - Trinity's baseball
team avoided a weekend series sweep with a 6-4 win over Millsaps College
on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (3-4, 1-2) managed four runs on
four hits, taking advantage of four errors by Millsaps. The Majors
could only plate two runs on 10 hits in the game, as Trinity had strong
pitching performances by its three hurlers.
Starter Drew Bignall (1-1) allowed just two
runs on seven hits through 5.2 innings of work, striking out three
hitters. First-year Evan Bronson allowed three hits over the next
1.1 innings, and Brian Oates earned his first save by pitching the final
two innings. Oates did not allow a hit to any of the six batters
he faced after relieving Bronson one batter into the eighth inning.
J.B. Sowyrda scored twice for the Tigers,
and was 1-3 at the plate. Ryan Cavan had Trinity's only RBI of the
day.
Hunter Abrams finished 3-5 for the Majors,
and Luke Morrow was 2-3 with one run and one RBI.
Trinity opened the scoring in the first
when Johnny Baugus stole third and then scored on an errant throw by
Majors catcher Nicky Prather. The Tigers added two more runs in
the fourth to take a 3-0 lead before Millsaps had back-to-back RBI
doubles in the sixth to make it a one-run game. Trinity added an
insurance run in the sixth on another Millsaps throwing error.
Trinity will host Schreiner on Tuesday
afternoon in a single game, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers will
then head to Hendrix College for a two-game road series with the
Warriors.
