Jackson, Mississippi - Trinity's
baseball team erased an early four-run lead and scored eight unanswered
runs to defeat Millsaps College 8-4 on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (22-8, 10-4) fell behind early
after a grand slam in the bottom of the third by the Majors, but
answered back with eight straight runs over the next three innings to
take the lead.
The comeback featured three key hits by the
Tigers, including a pair of two-run homers from Ryan Cavan and Blake
Holman. In addition to those hits, Nick Vera also had a two-run
double to open the Tiger scoring.
Vera finished 3-5 with two RBI and one run
scored, while Holman and Cavan were both 2-4 with two runs and two RBI
in the game. Johnny Baugus was 2-5 with one run scored.
Chuck Huggins (5-1) earned the win,
allowing four runs on six hits through 6.1 innings of work, striking out
five batters. Adam Frey closed the game with four strikeouts over
the final 2.2 innings, allowing just three hits.
Trinity returns home on Wednesday afternoon
in a single game against McMurry University at 2:00 p.m. Next
weekend, the Tigers will travel to finish the team's SCAC series with
both Rhodes and Hendrix. The team will take on Rhodes on Friday,
followed by games against Hendrix on Saturday and Sunday.
