Belton, Texas - Trinity's baseball
team continued its season-opening road trip with a 6-1 win over the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity (2-2) evened up its season record
with the win, scoring four times in the final two innings to preserve
the lead and take the win. The Tigers opened the scoring with
single runs in the third and fourth innings, and then broke open a 5-0
lead with a three-run eighth. After another insurance run in the
ninth, the Crusaders broke up the shutout with a run in the final frame.
Starter Brian Oates (1-0) , selected as the
SCAC Pitcher of the Week today, had another strong performance to open
the season. Oates threw 7.2 innings, allowing no runs on six hits
and striking out 10 batters.
Bobby Zabor and Zach Fregosi each finished
2-3 in the game, while Will Becker was 2-4 with one RBI. Johnny
Baugus finished 1-2 with one run scored, but reached base four times
total after being hit by a pitch and drawing two walks in the game.
The Tigers will open up Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference play against defending champs Millsaps College at
home this weekend. This becomes the conference opener after last
weekend's games at Rhodes College were postponed due to bad weather in
the Memphis area.
