San Antonio - After the game was
postponed 24 hours due to bad weather, the Trinity baseball team
defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 11-3 on Wednesday night at
E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity (21-7) jumped out to a 7-1 lead
thanks in large part to a five-run first inning. The five-run
first featured no earned runs allowed as Mary Hardin-Baylor committed
three errors in the inning.
The Crusaders cut the lead to 7-3 after
three innings, but Trinity added a pair of runs in both the seventh and
eighth to finish the scoring.
Will Becker was 3-4 with one run and five
RBI for the Tigers, while J.B. Sowyrda and Blake Holman added two hits
each. Sowyrda, named SCAC Player of the Week on Monday, also
scored three runs and drew two walks.
Holman also scored two runs, while Stosh
Hoover contributed two RBI.
Ryan Hopkins (3-1) pitched six innings to
earn the win, striking out four and allowing three runs on five hits.
Britton Horn and Adam Frey combined to finish the game, allowing no hits
over the final three innings.
Trinity will travel to Millsaps for a
two-game SCAC series over the weekend, and will return home in one week
for a single game against Schreiner University at 2:00 p.m.
