Conway, Arkansas - Trinity's
baseball team finished off its season series with Rhodes College on
Saturday afternoon at Hendrix College, winning 6-4 to take four of five
games this season.
Trinity (25-9, 12-4) took the early lead
with a three-run first inning, made possible by a three-run homer by
senior J.B. Sowyrda. Sowyrda finished 2-4 in the game, also
hitting a double for the Tigers.
Drew Bignall (5-2) earned the win with
eight strong innings, giving up just four runs on eight hits, and
striking out four batters. Adam Frey earned his second save of the
year, striking out two in a flawless ninth.
Rhodes cut the lead to one with a two-run
second, but the Tigers answered with a pair of runs in the second to
make it 5-2. The Lynx chipped away at the lead, scoring one run in
the fourth and sixth innings. Trinity added an insurance run in
the ninth to secure the victory.
Johnny Baugus led the team with three hits
in five at-bats, while - in addition to Sowyrda - two other players had
two hits in the game. Nick Vera was 2-4 with one run scored, while
Zach Fregosi finished 2-3 with a run scored.
The Tigers will conclude the weekend with a
single game against Hendrix tomorrow afternoon. The team will
travel to Southwestern next weekend for a three-game SCAC series.
