Trinity Scores Nine Unanswered Runs to Beat Schreiner

San Antonio - After falling behind early in Tuesday's game against Schreiner University, Trinity scored nine unanswered runs to win by the final of 9-3.

Trinity evens its season record at 4-4 with the victory.  Schreiner opened the game with a two-run first inning, taking advantage of two Tiger errors.  Schreiner made it a 3-0 game after scoring a third run on a sacrifice fly in the third, but Trinity answered with its own run in the bottom of the inning - capped by a two-out RBI triple from Ryan Cavan.

In the bottom of the fifth, Johnny Baugus stole third to set up a sacrifice fly by Blake Holman made it a 3-2 game, and then Will Becker hit a two-run homer in the sixth to give Trinity the lead for good.  The Tigers added three runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth to cap the day's scoring.

Cavan finished 2-4 with two RBI on the day, while Bobby Zabor was 2-4 with one run scored.  Baugus was hit by a pitch three times in the game, also scoring two runs.  Nick Vera scored twice and recorded three stolen bases in the game.

First-year pitcher Britton Horn (1-0) was credited with the win, allowing just three runs - two earned - on seven hits in 6.2 innings, striking out eight Mountaineer hitters.  Three Tiger relievers allowed just one hit over the final 2.1 innings of the game.

Trinity will travel to Hendrix College this weekend to take on the Warriors in a two-game SCAC road series.  The Tigers will also attempt to make up one of three games missed earlier this year at Rhodes.  The teams will meet in Millington, Tennessee, for a single game on Friday night.
