Kerrville, Texas - Trinity's
baseball team lost a three-run lead at Schreiner University on Tuesday
afternoon, losing 4-3 on a squeeze play in the ninth inning.
Trinity (22-9) opened up a three-run lead
after the top of the third inning, highlighted by a two-run double in
that inning. Schreiner answered with an unearned run in the bottom
of the inning to break up the shutout, and then tied the game with an
RBI double of its own in the fifth.
In the ninth, Schreiner loaded the bases
with no outs, and then scored on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the
ninth to earn the win.
Ryan Hopkins (3-2) took the loss, but
allowed just three earned runs through eight plus innings of work.
Hopkins also struck out eight batters in the game.
Bobby Zabor led the Tiger offense with two
hits and two RBI - including the run-scoring double in the third.
J.B. Sowyrda also had two hits and scored one of the team's three runs.
Trinity will return home tomorrow afternoon
in a single nine-inning game against McMurry University at 2:00 p.m.
Over the weekend, the Tigers will face Rhodes and Hendrix in three SCAC
road games.
