Tigers Unable to Hold Three-Run Lead at Schreiner

Kerrville, Texas - Trinity's baseball team lost a three-run lead at Schreiner University on Tuesday afternoon, losing 4-3 on a squeeze play in the ninth inning.

Trinity (22-9) opened up a three-run lead after the top of the third inning, highlighted by a two-run double in that inning.  Schreiner answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to break up the shutout, and then tied the game with an RBI double of its own in the fifth.

In the ninth, Schreiner loaded the bases with no outs, and then scored on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth to earn the win.

Ryan Hopkins (3-2) took the loss, but allowed just three earned runs through eight plus innings of work.  Hopkins also struck out eight batters in the game.

Bobby Zabor led the Tiger offense with two hits and two RBI - including the run-scoring double in the third.  J.B. Sowyrda also had two hits and scored one of the team's three runs.

Trinity will return home tomorrow afternoon in a single nine-inning game against McMurry University at 2:00 p.m.  Over the weekend, the Tigers will face Rhodes and Hendrix in three SCAC road games.
