San Antonio - The Tiger baseball
team hammered out nine runs in the third inning on its way to a 10-4 win
over Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (13-6, 6-2) fell behind early after
giving up a run in the first inning, but the big third inning - followed
by a 10th run in the fourth - put the team comfortably ahead.
Southwestern did attempt a comeback with a three-run seventh inning, but
could not score any more runs.
Chuck Huggins (3-1) allowed one run on one
hit through five innings, striking out five hitters to get the win for
Trinity. Adam Frey struck out two batters in the ninth to finish
off the game.
Ryan Cavan was 3-5 with three RBI and one
run scored offensively, while Will Becker was 2-4 with two RBI and two
runs scored. Becker hit a solo shot to lead off the third inning,
tying the game at 1-1 and sparking the team to its comeback. Later
in the same inning, Becker hit an RBI double to give him two hits in the
inning.
Jordan Pennington was 1-2 with two RBI -
also drawing two walks, while J.B. Sowyrda was 1-3 with two runs scored.
Richard Falcone was 2-4 for the Pirates,
while Ross Loewe drove in two runs on a two-run double with the bases
loaded in the seventh inning.
Trinity will remain at home throughout next
week, playing eight games from Tuesday through Sunday - including a
four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with Rhodes
College.
