Nine-Run Third Sends Trinity Past Southwestern Sunday

San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team hammered out nine runs in the third inning on its way to a 10-4 win over Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon.

Trinity (13-6, 6-2) fell behind early after giving up a run in the first inning, but the big third inning - followed by a 10th run in the fourth - put the team comfortably ahead.  Southwestern did attempt a comeback with a three-run seventh inning, but could not score any more runs.

Chuck Huggins (3-1) allowed one run on one hit through five innings, striking out five hitters to get the win for Trinity.  Adam Frey struck out two batters in the ninth to finish off the game.

Ryan Cavan was 3-5 with three RBI and one run scored offensively, while Will Becker was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Becker hit a solo shot to lead off the third inning, tying the game at 1-1 and sparking the team to its comeback.  Later in the same inning, Becker hit an RBI double to give him two hits in the inning.

Jordan Pennington was 1-2 with two RBI - also drawing two walks, while J.B. Sowyrda was 1-3 with two runs scored.

Richard Falcone was 2-4 for the Pirates, while Ross Loewe drove in two runs on a two-run double with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

Trinity will remain at home throughout next week, playing eight games from Tuesday through Sunday - including a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with Rhodes College.
