Georgetown, Texas - The Tiger baseball team defeated Southwestern University 7-4 to open a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Trinity (28-9, 15-4) improves to 4-0 against the Pirates this year.  Southwestern struck first with a run in the opening inning, but the Tigers answered with back-to-back homers from Bobby Zabor and J.B. Sowyrda to lead off the inning and take a 2-1 lead.

The Pirates reclaimed the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the second, which was followed by another two-run inning for Trinity that gave the visitors a 4-3 lead.  The Tigers added one run in each of the final three innings, and Southwestern managed another run in the sixth for the final score.

Zabor finished 4-4 with three runs scored in the game, while Blake Holman was 2-4 with two runs scored.  Nick Vera drove in a pair of runs on a third-inning single, and also stole two bases to increase his team-leading total to 30 steals this year.

Chuck Huggins (6-1) earned the win, allowing four runs on four hits through five innings, striking out five batters in the game.  Britton Horn earned the save, allowing no runs on two hits in the final two innings.

Game two will be played later this afternoon and will be the conference finale for the Tigers.  Currently, Trinity leads the SCAC standings with a 15-4 mark in division play.
