Seguin, Texas - Trinity's baseball
team was unable to hold a two-run lead late in the game, losing 3-4 to
Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity (1-2) led 3-1 heading into the
eighth, but the Bulldogs scratched two runs across to tie the game.
In the ninth, Texas Lutheran singled home the game-winning run with two
outs.
The Tigers squandered a solid start from
right-hander Brian Oates, who struck out nine TLU hitters in six
innings. Oates yielded just one run on three hits - two of which
came in a one-run first inning.
The Bulldogs held the one-run lead for the
next three innings before Trinity finally tied it on a two-out RBI
single from Johnny Baugus.
Blake Holman gave Trinity its first lead of
the game with a solo homer to lead off the seventh inning. Ryan
Cavan then made Texas Lutheran pay for a two-out walk in the eighth by
driving in the third run of the game for the Tigers.
Texas Lutheran loaded the bases with one
out in the eighth, and then tied the game on a fielder's choice that
followed an RBI single. The Bulldogs got a leadoff single in the
ninth, which led to the game-winning hit.
Holman finished 2-2 with a walk for the
game, while Cavan was 2-4 with one run and one RBI. Nick Vera
swiped a pair of bases in the game, and leads the team with four steals
in three games this year.
Trinity will begin SCAC play this weekend
as the team travels to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Rhodes College in a
three-game weekend series.
