San Antonio - The Tiger baseball
team lost a 3-6 decision to Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday night
at E.M. Stevens Field, finishing 0-2 against the Bulldogs this season.
Trinity (29-10) missed the chance to earn
its eighth 30-win season in the past nine years. The teams also
suffered a lightning delay of nearly one hour in the bottom of the sixth
inning.
The Tigers fell behind early as the
Bulldogs jumped ahead in the first with a four-run inning. Trinity
was never able to fully recover from the early deficit, despite cutting
the lead in half with a two-run second inning. Texas Lutheran
added two more insurance runs in the fourth inning, and Trinity only
managed one more run - that coming in the sixth after the long delay.
John Allen (1-2) was charged with the loss.
Tom Dailey was a bright spot on the Tiger pitching staff, though,
retiring 10 straight batters over the final 3.2 innings of play.
Johnny Baugus and Nick Vera collected four
of Trinity's six hits on offense, as Baugus was 2-4 with two RBI and
Vera was 2-3 with a run scored and a double.
Trinity will conclude its regular season
with a home game tomorrow afternoon against Hardin-Simmons University at
3:00 p.m.
