Tigers Avoid Shutout, Fall to D-I Centenary

Shreveport, Louisiana - Trinity's baseball team opened a two-game weekend road series with a 7-2 loss to Centenary (LA) College on Saturday night.

Trinity (5-8) was blanked offensively for the first eight innings, but the Tigers managed two runs in the ninth to avoid the team's second shutout of the season.

Centenary scored a pair of runs in the third inning to take the early advantage, followed by a four-run sixth inning to take control of the game in the later innings.

Starting pitcher Drew Bignall (1-1) took the loss for Trinity, though he allowed just three earned runs on eight hits through six innings of work.  Bignall allowed seven runs total, striking out four and walking three.  Evan Bronson and Ryan Hopkins finished off the final two innings by allowing just one hit.

Nick Vera hit his third home run with one out in the ninth inning, breaking up the shutout by the hometown Centenary Gents.  Vera extended his hitting streak to seven games with his ninth-inning shot over the left field wall.

Steven Ramos scored the team's second run, while Teddy Wilson drove in the final run of the game.

The two teams conclude the series with a single game tomorrow afternoon at Shehee Stadium.  Trinity travels to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Tuesday afternoon to wrap up an 11-game road trip.
