Peoria, Arizona - Trinity's baseball
team closed the first day of the Desert Classic with an 8-5 loss to
Hastings (NE) College on Thursday night.
Trinity (3-3) fell behind after Hastings
scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings, and never
recovered. The Tigers scored all five of its runs were scored in
the middle innings, but they could not erase the deficit.
The lead was down to just two runs (7-5)
after six innings, but an insurance run in the eighth by the Broncos
capped the game's scoring.
Earlier today, Trinity opened the three-day
tournament with a 9-5 win over Whitworth (WA) College, scoring four runs
in the ninth to break up a tie game.
Evan Bronson (0-2) allowed just two earned
runs on 10 hits through 7.1 innings, striking out a career-high 12
hitters and walking just one. Bronson did allow eight total runs,
though, taking his second loss of the young season. Zach Bukowski came
on in relief in the eighth and struck out six straight batters.
Steven Ramos led the Tigers with three hits
in the game, scoring once and driving in one run. Jordan
Pennington finished 2-4, while Blake Holman was 2-5, and both players
drove in one run. Both of Holman's hits were for extra bases,
cracking a double and a triple.
