Trinity Beats Hendrix to Open SCAC Weekend Series

San Antonio - The Tiger baseball team opened a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with a 9-2 win over Hendrix College on Friday night.

Trinity (7-9, 1-0 SCAC) opened up the scoring with a run in the first inning, then responded to a Hendrix run with a three-run fourth.

The Warriors cut the lead down to two with a run in the sixth, but the Tigers scored five runs over the next three innings to put the game out of reach.

Tiger pitchers Michael Hunter and Zach Bukowski pitched very well in this game, combining to give up just two runs on seven hits, striking out 13 batters.  Hunter (1-1) earned the win with five innings pitched, striking out seven.  Bukowski came on in relief, allowing no runs on three hits over the final four innings, and striking out six hitters - including striking out the side in the ninth to earn his first save.

Steven Ramos and Andrew Lawson drove in three runs each for Trinity.  Lawson was 1-2 with a two-run double, while Ramos was 2-3 to improve his team-leading batting average.

Evan Jones also collected two hits for the Tigers, while Bobby Zabor and Teddy Wilson scored two runs each in the game.  Zabor drew three walks, and the Trinity team was given 10 total base on balls in the game.

Matt Giza and Kirk Kimery cracked two hits each for Hendrix, and starter Aaron Gankofskie allowed four runs - just one earned - on six hits through four innings.  Gankofskie (1-2) walked four batters and was charged with the loss.

The two teams will meet tomorrow for a Saturday afternoon SCAC doubleheader.  Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.  Sunday afternoon will mark the final game of the series, which will begin at noon.
