Jackson, Mississippi -
Trinity's baseball team earned
a 10-2 win over Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon, finishing off the
second half of a doubleheader game that was postponed yesterday.
Trinity (14-12, 5-2) scored at least one run in each of the first six
innings, including a three-run first inning to pull ahead early.
The game went to the bottom of the fourth before it was postponed until
today, and Trinity was leading 6-0 at the time.
When play resumed, the Tigers continued with a solid performance on the
mound from Evan Bronson. Bronson (3-2) pitched a complete game,
giving up just two runs on eight hits and striking out seven batters.
Millsaps finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth after
Trinity had pushed the lead to 9-0. Bronson gave up a solo homer
and an RBI single in the inning.
Three Tiger players finished with three hits in the game, while another
had a two-hit performance. Bobby Zabor was 3-4 with two runs and
two RBI, while Evan Jones was 3-3 with three RBI. Zabor had a
career-best two doubles in the game, as well as a sacrifice fly to score
a run.
As
it has been all season, though, it was Nick Vera who really shined
offensively in this game, going 3-3 with two runs and four RBI. He
hit his third homer of the four-game series - this one a three-run shot
to put Trinity on the board in the first inning.
Blake Holman also had a strong performance on offense, finishing 2-3
with two runs scored and a double.
Trinity and Millsaps wrap up the weekend series later today. The
winner of the final game will be in first place in the SCAC standings.
